Coach's Comments:
|
|
The U17 Girls have come of age! The U18 provincial championship was a weekend of special achievements. For the first time,we defeated the Durham Attack team in a provincial match! That victory allowed us to play another arch rival, the Aurora Storm, and we took them out in two straight sets as well. Thus validating, once and for all, our Silver Medal finish in the U17 Provincials!
It was a trully rewarding weekend for our team. The wins were the result of a complete team effort, with all the girls contributing.
While we are pleased with our performance, we are aiming to continue improving our play and are entering the Nationals with high expectations.
See you in Ottawa.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
On the first warm weekend of the year, the U17 girls brought the skill and speed they had built in the warmth of Alabama to the Provincial Championship and were able, for the second year in a row, to bring home a Silver Medal.
The speed and PSAZZ of our play was more than the opposition could handle right up to the final.
While our entire team played well, several players raised their game to a new level. Alana Ryan was unstoppable at right side. Becky McLean and Katarina Chan dug everything and passed "nails". And Johanna Ovsenek and Georgia Robinson dominated at the net.
Our offence was, at times, magical. Setters Christina Grail, Sarah Vitali, and Danielle Aquilina kept the opposing blockers confused and frustrated. When we had to outlet the ball, left sides Stephanie Kantzos, Sarah Allan, and Melissa Morelli kept the heat on.
Thanks to all the parents and friends who came to cheer the girls on. It was a really fun and satisfying weekend, and it has set us up for another run at the National Championship.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
A day that had "Gold Medal" written all over it came to a sudden and disappionting finish.
The only down side to early day's play was the injury to Danielle's eye. Our passers were doing the job, the setting was good, and the attackers were finishing off plays with confidence. And then, just to show how fast things can turn around, we let the match against the Capitals get away. While the results were not great, there was a lot of very solid play and we are determined to make the remainder of the season an example of how well we know we can play. Bring it on!

Coach's Comments:
|
|
The team faced a very tough draw and faced the best teams in the tournament on our way to a 9th place finish.
We sandwiched wins in our first and last matches around some hard but unsuccessful matches in the middle of the day. None of the matches featured much suspense as we were either in complete control, or we were being given a strong lesson.
We need to make some big strides to be competitive at the U18 level.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
We finally finished off a tournament with some solid consistent play.
The entire team took care of business and used some very tough serving to stay on top of our opponents throughout the day
It was the sign we have been waiting for that we are capable of playing at a level that will make us contenders again for the title.
We look forward to our next event and hope to continue to build our momentum.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
One week makes a big difference!
The girls showed signifivantly better team work this week as we finished first in our pool. At times we looked like we had things really figured out, but inconsistency surfaced and we were reminded that we still have much work to do.
Georgia and Alana gave us a strong performance at the net, and everyone stepped up their serving.
Unlike the week before, we were in every match and even though the final standing was not what we wanted, we were pleased with the improvement in several phases of our game.
We look forward to the new year.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
The U17 girls green team had a rough start to the 07-08 season. It didn't take long for us to realize that we were in a brand new season, and were up against some teams that had made significant changes to strengthen their rosters.
While we had a disappointing tournament, we took solace in the fact that are still establishing our team roles, and will get significantly better as the season progresses.
Our optimistic outlook has not been dampened.

Coach's Comments:
|
|
The season got underway for our team with a relaxed round robin U18 zone tournament
It was fun to finally play some volleyball after practicing for a month and we took advantage of the opportunity to get girls into a variety of positions, and combinations.
At days end, we felt that it had been a good start for our team and that we had learned a lot about how to play together and where we needed to focus our attentions.
'07-'08 promises to be a great year.
