Coach's Comments:
FC Green playing some of their best volleyball of the season entered Provincials winning their first pool play match against the Capitals. The next pool play match saw a slow start to the set with the Durham Attack jumping out to the lead by 5 points, and FC struggling with serve receive. However Game 2 saw a different FC team defeated 20-25. Against the Ballhawks, FC won in 2 sets, 25-15, 25-13 to finish in a three way tie for first in the pool. In the tie breaking procedure, FC lost the points for and against tie, and ended up third in the pool. This set up a meeting with Black Impact in the prequarter. Playing some of their best volleyball of the year in Set One, FC defeated the Impact 25-14. However Impact roared back in the next two sets, to defeat FC 2-1. FC bounced back Day 2, playing with confidence and maturity, won their next two matches for seeding, defeating a scrappy Halton team, 25-18, 25-8. Against the Mavericks, FC won, in 2 sets. 25-23, 25-19. Congratulations to Brianna Newman, the Award of Excellence winner, and to all the parents, relatives, friends who came out to cheer and support the team. It was amazing! The girls now prepare for two Nationals, U 17, and U 16 in Calgary. Congratulations to FC, for their great effort and play over the weekend! Your coaches

Coach's Comments:
In an exciting day FC came home with a bronze medal and an opportunity to advance to Tier 1 U 17 Provincials. With consistent play in the pools, FC finished second, and crossed over to play the 2nd seed, Durham Attack Red in the quarter-finals. Going 3 sets, FC prevailed to advance to the semis against the KW Predators. FC jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the KW predators played tenaciously to win the set by 3 points. FC stayed with KW but could not close out to force a third set. Entering the bronze medal match, FC lost a close first game to strong attacking Georgian Bay Vista. In Set 2, FC had some good blocks to take the 2nd set, and minimized their serving errors. In an exciting 3rd set, FC down by 5 points, was tenacious in defense and roared back against a strong Vista team, tying the score at 14 all. Setter Julia Bellehumeur set Frances Ruiz for a kill and Brianna Newman made the kill from leftside on game point that Vista could not recover to give FC the match! An exciting victory to finish the day! Thanks to all the parents, and supporters for their cheering and lining in a day filled with lots of volleyball! Congratulations to FC for your great team effort! Coaches Peckham,Marcus, Morrow

Coach's Comments:

FC Green advanced their seed this past weekend, playing some consistent and great volleyball! In a tough tournament, FC played even in their pool play with the Rapids, but unforced errors proved costly as the Rapids won. In the second match of pool play, FC easily defeated the Impact first set with strong blocking, good serving, and a variety of attacks. The second set taking the lead at 20-16, FC could not hold, and unforced errors proved the difference. In the third set, Impact, bounced back with strong serving, and won the match in 3. However FC advanced to the prequarters and defeated a strong Capitals team in 2 sets, only to meet a tall, U 15 Durham Attack in the quarters. Playing even until 11-7, the Attack's serving and defence proved the difference. However, FC stormed back Set 2 to win 26-24, and force a third set, after adjusting well to the fast play. A couple of unforced errors gave Attack the edge. In the seeding match, FC came back to play the Rapids, and took the match in three sets with some strong serving, and excellent defence. Congratulations to the team on some great play over the day against some excellent teams. It was exciting for fans, players, and coaches!

Coach's Comments:
Playing some good volleyball, Forest City finished in the Top 8 tied for 5th to 8th, because those matches were not played. With some strong serving, and defensive play, FC finished 2nd in their pool, playing the second seed South County point by point only to miss winning the second set and forcing a third game. The girls advanced to the quarter finals against the No 1 seed, and almost upset Scarborough, defeated in close sets 23-25, 22-25, to advance to the semi-finals. The girls earned the right to stay in Tier 2 for the next Under 17 Tournament. Well done, FC! The Coaches.

Coach's Comments:

Playing some excellent volleyball, the FC Green Team, played their first match of the morning with Durham Attack, pretty evenly. The lead changed hands several times with the Attack, just squeaking out a win, 22-25. The second set saw Durham serving and attacking to win the second set. The next pool play match, FC stormed back to defeat the Vortex easily in 2 sets.

In the prequarter match, FC easily handled Peel in set 1 but Peel bounced back to win Set 2 by 4 points. In the 3rd set, FC had a lead 11-6, but with some passing errors, Peel sniffed victory, and FC lost a heartbreaker 15-13.

However FC bounced back in their next match to have an exciting game with the energetic Mavericks, defeating them in a close set 25-23. The second set saw some strong serving by Sarah Marcus, Hayley Orr, Kelsey Jovichevich to help clinch the match, and secure a place in the Top 10. The day saw excellent play by all.

Congratulations on the team, on their much improved play from the last tournament, against a very strong field!

Coach's Comments:
Forest City Green 16 U had an up and down day at the first Tier One Tournament of the season, but hung on to finish in the Top 10 at the end of the day! Missed serves and inconsistent passing proved to be a challenge over the course of the day, with big point swings in games. The girls showed well winning one set off the Rapids in pool play with strong passing and tough serving. At the end of the day, FC had a convincing win in their last set to clinch ninth place. The girls goal for next the tournament is to work toward more consistent passing and defence. They are working hard and looking forward to their next tournament in January! Coach P.
