Coach's Comments:
The boys had a great start to their first ever Provincials coming second in their pool. All members of the team were able to play and contribute to this successful day. This set us up nicely for day two! Day two was a rollercoaster day, a lot of ups and downs! We started our day playing a strong, tall Ottawa Fusion team, and with many secrete services agents watching and one “very important person in the house” (I personally thought they were talking about Vaughan Peckham), we fought hard and gave them a game. The boys served hard, passed well and the setters had good set selection to help us come close in the two games 25-17 and 25-20. Unfortunately we came up flat on our next game against a very beatable team, Barrie Elite. They served really hard and made very few errors and we were unable to pass or attack the ball. However we rebounded and came out on fire against the very tall, strong and experienced team, Pakman. The boys were determined to block and dig this team! We surprised the them with our passion and drive, coming close 25-18 and 25-14. It was a really fun game to watch and coach! We could not maintain this momentum however and played the worst game of the tournament against a team we have beaten in the past, Rage. This put us in Tier Two. Day three started off amazing with the boys coming to play! We played the 5th ranked Toronto West team and handled them easily. Adam found his grove and effectively removed their strong hitter from t he game by his strong blocks. Andrew R was very consistent at the net scoring hitting numerous kills to the line, and the setters, Ben and Doug ran down the balls and were smart with their set choices. Chris and Craig played some amazing defense and help maintain our momentum. When you play so well, sometimes it is hard to keep that level of play and that is what happened to us in our next match. We played MAC, and came out very flat. Once again is was a matter of who could serve and who could pass – unfortunately it wasn’t us! We lost in two fast games, never able to find our grove. This put us in the bronze medal match against a younger team. We had a good long warm up and the boys were refocused for this final game. They were able to serve very well and this keep us in the game and we won in two easy games. I know the boys learned a lot from this experience and it has made them stronger mental volleyball players as a result. Congratulations boys you earned that medal! Coach Patti, John and Dave

Tournament Result: GOLD!

Congratulations to all team members for an outstanding day and your exceptional play in capturing our first gold medal of the season. All of your hard work at practice during the past couple of weeks certainly paid off in the best possible way. As the day progressed everyone’s confidence grew and it showed in the semi final performance against a strong MAC team. The gold medal match saw us again in battle versus a strong Predators team. After losing to them in pool play it was amazing to see how we were able to rebound and defeat them in a great match 25-23, 10-25, 15-8.

Congratulations again to all team members and thank you to family and friends for the tremendous support during the day!

Coach's Comments:

Our second tournament of the year started off very slowly with the boys playing tentatively with no enthusiasm and not playing as a team.

Thankfully after Coach Dave’s inspiring pep talk before our second match the boys started to come out of their shells and play better together, winning the next two sets. This put us second in our pool and we were facing a strong Toronto West team in our first playoff game. It was a close game with the boys showing better footwork to get into position to dig the hits and much better defense. Our last game was against the Guelph team which we had played earlier in the day. The boys showed a lot more passion and excitement in this match and as a result, it was fun to watch. Andrew K provided us with key defensive digs to keep us in the match along with Adam and Andrew R’s offensive blocking and hitting gave us the win in a close 3 game match.

The boys learned an important lesson from this tournament; the importance of playing to the best of their abilities every time they are on the court. We will work hard in practice to be ready for our next tournament.

Coach Patti

Coach's Comments:

The boys had a fabulous start to the season! With great services, amazing defense and smart hitting we were undefeated in pool play action. In the quarter finals we faced a very large Niagara Rapids team. It went three games and by using our brains as well as our muscles we were able to overcome the size difference and advance to the semis.

Again we played a three set match, losing the first game 23-25. The boys stayed focused and worked hard on defense and ball control to come back and win the next two games. We found ourselves in the finals!!

The Predator team was big and experienced with many athletes that could spike and serve the ball hard. We fought hard and came close in the second game, finally losing 23-25.

A well earned silver, the boys should be very proud of themselves.
