Welcome to the Forest City Volleyball web site.

Our club is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mandate is:

  • to foster an interest, appreciation, and love of volleyball at the grassroots level.
  • to provide young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills through playing at the recreational and competitive levels.
  • to provide our elite athletes with access to regional, provincial, and national programs, as well as post secondary educational programs in both Canada and the United States.

In order to achieve our objectives the club has two streams: Minor League Teams and Competitive Teams

Minor League

Our Minor League offers developmental, non-competitive volleyball experiences to both boys and girls in grades 5 through 8. Programs run from September to December and from January to March. Interested athletes can register through the London Parks and Recreation Department. To find out more about Minor League please click on the Minor League button in our menu.

Competitive Teams

Our Competitive teams service boys and girls from 10 to 18 and offer competition in the more elite league provided by the Ontario Volleyball Association. Tryouts are held each September and competition runs through to late Spring. Information about these teams can be found by clicking on the Competitive Teams button.

Club History

While the name Forest City Volleyball Club was introduced in 1992, its roots began with the Junos Volleyball Club, and the Kineldiego Volleyball Club. The Junos were started by Fran Eberhard [Wigston] and carried on by former player Therese Quigley. The program for girls started in the late 60's and was very successful, sending several players on to the national team. In the early 70's, Vaughan Peckham started the Kineldiego program to provide boys with a chance to play. The Junos worked out of Western and the Kineldiegos called Saunders Secondary School their home.

Other demands took Therese and Vaughan away from the club game, and the Junos no longer existed, while the Kineldiegos continued into the early 80's under the leadership of Dave Wallace.

In 1988 competitive boys volleyball returned to London with the formation of the London Kings. Vaughan returned to the club and worked with Dave McMillan and Dave Preston to get the club started again. Two teams ran in that first year, midget boys coached by Dave McMillan, and juvenile boys under Dave Preston. The two teams ran out of Forest City Secondary School and Oakridge Secondary School.

In 1989 Positive Identity sponsored the club and it moved to the North London Community Center. The club name was changed to North London Volleyball Club, reflecting the change in location. 1990 brought the return of girls volleyball to the club with Jane Peckham heading up a midget team and Lisa Delange coaching the juveniles.

Growth continued and in 1992 London Source for Sports became the club's main sponsor and the name and logo of Forest City Volleyball was born. While the club no longer has a major sponsor, its large and dedicated volunteer staff has allowed it to grow into one of Canada's top amateur sports clubs.
